Naltraxone Helps With Alcholism

Alcoholism is a chronic disease which tends to run in families. The main treatment for alcoholism is to stop drinking alcohol which can be difficult, because most people who are alcoholics feel a strong desire for alcohol after they stop drinking. This is where naltraxone comes in to help. Naltraxone is a medicine that reduces your desire for alcohol after you stop drinking. It may help you stay sober for a long time.

Naltraxone helps by blocking the parts of your brain that feel the pleasure when you use alcohol and narcotics. When these areas of the brain are blocked, your need to drink alcohol lessens and you can stop drinking more easily. One of the advantage over its competitor is that naltraxone does not make you feel sick if you drink alcohol while taking it.

As with any other drugs, naltraxone does have its share of side effects. Some people have side effects like nausea, headache, constipation, dizziness, nervousness, insomnia, drowsiness, or anxiety. Note that most of the possible side effects do not happen very often. It is suggested that if you get any of these side effects to consult your doctor. He or she may change your treatment or suggest ways you can deal with the side effects. Your doctor will also decide how long you will be on naltraxone for. Most people take the medicine for 12 weeks or more.
